Watch Sydney's Air Quality-Tunnel design and ventilation outlets
Above world standard
Sydney’s air quality is good by world standards, according to international comparisons made by the World Health Organisation who set air quality guidelines.
A connected Sydney
The Sydney's motorway network includes over 160 kilometres of surface roads, tunnels, bridges and underpasses. Six major tunnels help relieve surface congestion and ventilation systems ensure that tunnel emissions do not have a measurable impact on air quality.
More to the story
While motor vehicles in Sydney contribute to emissions, they only make up around 13 per cent, as compared to wood fires which contribute around 50 per cent of Sydney’s total particle emissions.
