Mulgoa Road upgrade benefits

Appin Road safety improvement work between Mt Gilead and Appin

The Australian Government is funding a $50 million package to improve safety on Appin Road and support affordable housing in the Greater Macarthur Growth Area.

The next stage of work would include a number of targeted safety improvements to about five kilometres of Appin Road between Mt Gilead and Brian Road to improve safety for residents, motorists and freight operators, as well as create further traffic efficiencies.

This safety improvement package would also include a corridor study for a link road between Appin Road and Menangle Road, supporting future housing growth as part of the NSW Government’s Greater Macarthur Growth Area.

Appin Road upgrade between Rosemeadow and Mt Gilead

The upgrade would be funded by the NSW Government Housing Acceleration Fund and Lendlease as part of their plans to unlock new housing at Mt Gilead and improve safety and access for local residents and through traffic.

About four kilometres of Appin Road, between Fitzgibbon Lane, Rosemeadow and Mt Gilead would be duplicated. Three existing intersections at Copperfield Drive and Kellerman Drive, Fitzgibbon Lane and Kellerman Drive, and the intersection with St Johns Road would also be improved. Two new intersections will be constructed to provide access to the Mt Gilead development.

Link Road Corridor Study between Appin Road and Menangle Road

The Link Road Corridor Study started in October 2018 to identify options for the proposed east-west link road (the Link Road). The Link Road would provide a key connection between Appin Road, Gilead and Menangle Road, Menangle Park and support growth in the region.

The Link Road would also provide access to the future Spring Farm Parkway Stage 1 and the Hume Motorway. A future Stage 2 of the Spring Farm Parkway would complete the connection from Appin Road to the Camden Bypass.

Transport for NSW has developed an options report for the proposal and is seeking community feedback on a short list of four options. The community consultation period will be open until Friday 11 December.

Spring Farm Parkway Stage 1

Spring Farm Parkway at Menangle Park would ultimately provide an essential connection between Campbelltown Bypass, the Hume Motorway and Menangle Road. The proposed link road between Appin Road and Menangle Road would connect the Hume Motorway, Menangle Road and Appin Road. Together these projects would provide an east-west link that will service existing and future residential land releases and support the Greater Macarthur Growth Area.

Stage 1 of the Spring Farm Parkway would provide a new four lane divided road extending almost one kilometre. The Parkway would connect Menangle Road to the Hume Motorway and Spring Farm, Elderslie, and Menangle Park.

Link Road Corridor Study area

The proposed link road would provide a key connection between Appin Road and Menangle Road. The east-west link road would support future housing growth as part of the NSW Government's Greater Macarthur Growth Area.

Following feedback from the community and other stakeholders, the study area has been extended west following Menangle Road just over the Hume Motorway, and further south along the Hume Motorway.

Roads and Maritime is currently carrying out desktop studies and site investigations to develop a number of possible route options within this area and identify a recommended route option. Roads and Maritime will consult with the community and provide an opportunity for feedback.
