Snowy 2.0 is a pumped-hydro expansion of the Snowy Scheme which will supercharge existing generation and large-scale storage capabilities. Snowy 2.0 will link the two existing reservoirs of Tantangara and Talbingo through underground tunnels and there will be an underground power station in between with pumping capabilities.

Before the design of the underground power station can be developed, greater understanding of the underground rock types, strength and structure is needed so the cavern can be placed in the best location.

An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) has been prepared for an application for the Exploratory Works for Snowy 2.0.

The main works and operation of Snowy 2.0 will be subject to a separate application and EIS. The Exploratory Works has been developed to ensure enough detailed information is available to inform the design of Snowy 2.0.
