Talbingo Reservoir

An existing dam that would be used for barge transport and in-reservoir rock placement

Talbingo Reservoir is an existing dam which is home to the largest power station in the Snowy Scheme, Tumut 3. The reservoir has a total capacity of 921,400 megalitres which is equivalent to around 370,000 Olympic sized swimming pools. The reservoir is popular for recreational activities such as boating, fishing, water skiing and canoeing.

Elements of the Exploratory Works relevant to Talbingo Reservoir include:

  • in-reservoir rock placement
  • barge ramps at Middle Bay and Talbingo Spillway
  • a navigation channel at Middle Bay
  • an underwater communications cable between Tumut 3 and Middle Bay
  • the supply and discharge of water from Middle Bay
