Work on the Rankin Park to Jesmond section of the Newcastle Inner City Bypass is making great progress, with a flurry of activity expected at the southern extent of the project over the coming weeks. In preparation for the bypass opening to traffic, a review of traffic connections to the project has identified an opportunity to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at the southern end. As part of the Newcastle Inner City Bypass Rankin Park to Jesmond project’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability, a series of additional replacement habitat around the project site has been installed when work began to support local wildlife. Habitat included carved “hollows”, nest boxes and reuse of salvaged hollows targeting a range of species including Little Lorikeet (Glossopsitta pusilla), Powerful Owl (Ninox strenua) and Squirrel Glider (Petaurus norfolcensis).
