New Miller Street southbound on ramp benefits
The new Miller Street on ramp is 200 metres long, 10 metres wide and was built with 40 pre-cast girders. Once the Warringah Freeway is complete, the Miller Street on ramp will:
take vehicles over the top of the new dedicated southbound bus lane, separating general traffic from buses (see image 2 overpage)
improve safety by removing the need for merging and weaving between buses and general traffic on the freeway.
What to expect
The new southbound on ramp will not affect how you access the freeway. Whether you are travelling north or south along Miller Street, you will still be able to turn onto the Miller Street southbound on ramp for journeys toward the city. Vehicles will join the freeway southbound lanes just north of Ernest Street bridge.
Motorists using the on ramp will continue to have access to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Cahill Expressway and future Alfred Street off ramp (due to open mid 2025).

Future traffic changes
We are currently continuing to build the new Brook Street on ramp, which is expected to be completed in July 2025. Once complete, the new Brook Street on ramp will join with the new Miller Street on ramp where traffic from the two ramps will merge before continuing down onto the freeway. We will update you with more information on this closer to the opening time.
To further support the efficiency of the new on ramp, the project is also upgrading the traffic lights at the entry onto the Miller Street on ramp to improve traffic flow and safety from Miller Street onto the ramp. This will be completed later this year.
Frequently Asked Questions
The 200 metre long, 10 metre wide on ramp has been constructed using 40 pre-cast Super-T girders, each weighing around 48 tonnes.
Once all elements of the freeway are complete, the Miller Street southbound on ramp will:
· provide access from Miller Street, Cammeray to the Cahill Expressway, Sydney Harbour Bridge and the future Alfred Street off ramp (due to re-open in August 2025)
· take vehicles over the top of the new dedicated southbound bus lane, helping to separate general traffic from buses
· improve the traffic flow onto the Warringah Freeway from both Miller Street and Brook Street, ensuring smoother travel within the road network.
To further support the efficiency of the new on ramp, the project is also upgrading the traffic lights at the entry onto the Miller Street on ramp to improve traffic flow and safety from Miller Street onto the ramp.
The Cammeray bus layover facility, which supports the timely operation of the Sydney bus network, is temporarily located within the Cammeray Construction Site for the Warringah Freeway Upgrade.
Buses accessing the layover area from within the freeway will travel along the future dedicated bus lane beneath the new Miller Street on ramp for direct access into the layover area.
