Transport for NSW will install traffic lights at the intersection of Moorefield Avenue and President Avenue in 2025, giving residents a safe left and right turn out of Moorefield Avenue onto President Avenue and direct access to West Botany Street and the future M6 Stage 1 tunnel.
To allow for these new traffic lights, Moorefield Avenue will become one way between President Avenue and Warren Avenue. This will have minimal impact on local parking and will not impact any driveways.

Our roadwork activities in November include switching the lanes of traffic on President Avenue between Princes Highway and West Botany Street – eastbound lanes will be moved to the southern side of President Avenue and a work zone will be established on the northern side. This change will enable the commencement of traffic management works and the installation of equipment, signage and signalling for the M6 Stage 1.
Stormwater drainage upgrades are near completion. Pavement and footpath works continue, including a slip lane from Princes Highway to President Avenue and works within the C6 compound (formerly 7-Eleven).
Three base slab pours within the tunnel portal are scheduled for this month, and we will be installing the precast deck on President Avenue bridge.
Read our November 2024 notification for the full program of roadworks construction activities.

Site establishment activities in Whiteoak Reserve will commence on Tuesday 29 October, marking a milestone for the M6 Stage 1. Establishment activities will pave the way for the team to begin construction of the 5km shared pedestrian and cyclist pathway from Whiteoak Reserve to the existing site in Muddy Creek, adjacent to C.A. Redmond Field and Rockdale Women Sportsfield. Once complete, Whiteoak Reserve will be the northernmost point of the alignment, which will meander south through Bicentennial Park, across President Avenue via the new shared pathway bridge, before heading to Chuter Avenue via Scarborough Park north.
Our team will place site fencing along the project’s boundary in Whiteoak Reserve before site establishment activities begin. Learn more about site establishment by reading our latest notification for Whiteoak Reserve. Keep up to date with all ongoing construction by subscribing to our email distribution list.

Tunnelling and construction work continues during November at Arncliffe. The electrical team has commenced the mainline fit-out, which includes installing mainline cable containment and essential devices. These installations will enable the operation of all electrical systems, including GPS and variable signage, for the tunnels when they are operational.
To learn more, view our latest updates from Marsh Street to Spring Street, Arncliffe and Spring Street to Bay Street, Banksia.
Tunnelling also continues from our Rockdale site. Our activities at this site include ongoing excavation of the future tunnel roof and floor, as well as trenching to install drainage services and communication conduits.

This year has seen a huge amount of construction completed and we thank you for your patience during the disruption. Overall, 90 percent of tunnelling is now complete and major road and utility upgrades will be complete in 2025.
Since the two subsidence events in March this year near West Botany Street, tunnelling has paused from our Bicentennial Park site. Transport and its delivery partner, CGU have been reviewing the design of the tunnel in the impacted areas and planning a new construction program.
As a result, the timeframe for opening the M6 Stage tunnel and implementing all final traffic arrangements on President Avenue will change. We will update the community on timeframes when they become clearer.

A new landmark has transformed the landscape of Kogarah and Brighton-Le-Sands with the installation of a new pedestrian and cyclist bridge over President Avenue.
Two steel sections of President Avenue bridge were lifted into place between 9pm, Saturday 13 July and 5am, Sunday 14 July. President Avenue was closed between West Botany Street and O'Connell Street during this time to facilitate the installation. The three bridge spans were manufactured using 121 tonnes of steel with the main span weighing 70 tonne.
The new President Avenue bridge will link Bicentennial Park and Scarborough Park, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to seamlessly and safely cross over the busy thoroughfare. President Avenue bridge is a key feature of the five kilometre shared pedestrian and cyclist pathway and will be accessible on the completion of the shared pathway in late 2025.
The shared pathway has been designed to connect the community with revitalised natural landscapes, new green spaces, playgrounds, picnic areas and fields, being constructed as part of the M6 Stage 1’s Urban and Design Landscape Plan.

A major milestone has been reached on the M6 Stage 1 project with the completion of the final cable pull for the Permanent Power Supply (PPS) on Thursday, 5 September. The last cable was successfully installed between Joint Bay 8 at Kimpton Street and Joint Bay 9 at York Street, Rockdale.
This 7-kilometre underground PPS, stretching from Ausgrid’s Canterbury Substation in Earlwood to the Motorway Operations Centre in Rockdale, will provide reliable power for essential tunnel systems, including lighting and ventilation. This achievement not only concludes a critical phase of the project but also ensures the necessary power supply needed for the M6 Stage 1 tunnels.
The roads previously excavated for the installation of the power supply will be permanently restored. The activities include backfilling of joint bays, restoration of roads, traffic islands and kerbs, and line marking. Road restoration started in June 2024 and is now in its final stages and is steadily advancing along the alignment.
While most of the work will take place during the day, certain sections will be done at night to minimise traffic disruptions.
Due to some delays in authority approvals, we now anticipate the Permanent Power Supply works to be fully completed by Q1 2025.
For more information about the program of works, including an interactive map, please visit our dedicated Permanent Power Supply page.
