A new landmark is set to rise on President Avenue with a new 240-metre pedestrian and cyclist bridge that will connect Rockdale’s Bicentennial Park with Scarborough Park soon to be installed.
With a focus on connecting local communities and encouraging outdoor activity, the bridge will be a key part of the project’s Active Transport Corridor and a connection point for shared pedestrian and cyclist pathways.
The bridge consists of three steel spans over President Avenue and ten cast in-situ concrete spans on the northern and southern sides. Fabrication of the steel portion of the bridge is 90% complete with installation scheduled for mid-year where the team will use a 500-tonne crane to help lift the spans into place.
In preparation for the bridge lift, the project team has been progressing with the construction of the bridge's substructure, including its pile foundations.

In 2024, work continues to complete the installation of the seven-kilometre underground permanent power supply for the M6 Stage 1, linking the Canterbury substation at Earlwood to the Motorway Operations Centre at West Botany Street, Rockdale.
Work has progressed steadily since its commencement in May 2023. To-date, over 90% of trenching works have been completed, with 9 of 11 joint bays constructed, and 33% of the cable pulling carried out successfully. These cable pulling works are pivotal step in ensuring a reliable and continuous power supply for the M6 Stage 1 tunnels.
Permanent road reinstatement of affected roads is also underway and set to begin from March 2024, we expect works to be complete in mid-May 2024
We have a dedicated Permanent Power Supply page where you can find out more information about the program of works and explore the interactive map.
