In 2024, work continues to complete the installation of the seven-kilometre underground permanent power supply for the M6 Stage 1, linking the Canterbury substation at Earlwood to the Motorway Operations Centre at West Botany Street, Rockdale.
Work has progressed steadily since its commencement in May 2023, with over 96% of cable pulling completed successfully.
Road restoration is the final stage to complete Permanent Power Supply works. It began in June in Earlwood and is steadily advancing along the alignment.
Once complete, these previously excavated roads will have smooth surfaces and improved conditions for motorists. While the majority of the work will be conducted during the day, certain sections will be carried out at night to minimise disruptions in traffic.
We expect Permanent Power Supply works to be completed by October 2024.
We have a dedicated Permanent Power Supply page where you can find out more information about the program of works and explore the interactive map.

A new landmark has transformed the landscape of Kogarah and Brighton-Le-Sands with the installation of a new pedestrian and cyclist bridge over President Avenue.
Two steel sections of President Avenue bridge were lifted into place between 9pm, Saturday 13 July and 5am, Sunday 14 July. President Avenue was closed between West Botany Street and O'Connell Street during this time to facilitate the installation. The three bridge spans were manufactured using 121 tonnes of steel with the main span weighing 70 tonne.
The new President Avenue bridge will link Bicentennial Park and Scarborough Park, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to seamlessly and safely cross over the busy thoroughfare. President Avenue bridge is a key feature of the five kilometre shared pedestrian and cyclist pathway and will be accessible on the completion of the shared pathway in late 2025.
The shared pathway has been designed to connect the community with revitalised natural landscapes, new green spaces, playgrounds, picnic areas and fields, being constructed as part of the M6 Stage 1’s Urban and Design Landscape Plan.

Roadworks, street lighting, stormwater drainage, watermain works and utility upgrades are continuing along President Avenue, Princes Highway and West Botany Street.
We are currently upgrading the stormwater drainage system and replacing redundant utilities along the project alignment and on the southern side of President Avenue, between O’Connell Street and Princes Highway. Existing pipes are being replaced with larger stormwater pipes to allow greater flow rate and increased capacity, as well as improved stormwater drainage during rain and extreme weather events. Construction of the future tunnel portal located in Bicentennial Park is ongoing and the next base slab within the tunnel portal will be poured in June.
