West Botany Street Work, Rockdale
Traffic and parking changes on West Botany Street between French Street and the Bicentennial Park northern carpark will begin on the night of Monday 17 March, with main impacts starting from Tuesday 18 March.

What will this mean for you?
Expect traffic delays and extended travel times during the work and we encourage motorists to plan journeys. This includes considering alternative routes such as Princes Highway, The Grand Parade, and General Holmes Drive, especially during peak travel periods.

New planting and revitalisation work
25 March 2025
Work has begun on the revitalisation and landscaping of the shared pedestrian and cyclist pathway.
In Scarborough Park, we are planting native species and new trees. This work will revitalise an area in the Patmore Swamp that is twice the size of the construction zone enhancing the existing wetlands and supporting local biodiversity.

Permanent Power Supply works nearing completion
18 February 2025
The 7-kilometre underground Permanent Power Supply, stretching from Ausgrid’s Canterbury Substation in Earlwood to the Motorway Operations Centre in Rockdale, will provide reliable power for essential tunnel systems, including lighting and ventilation.
The roads previously excavated for the installation of the power supply have almost all been permanently restored. Minor works including line marking continues.
Certain sections of work will be done at night along Princes Highway, West Botany Street and Rockdale Plaza Drive to minimise traffic disruptions.
The Permanent Power Supply works are coming to an end and will be fully completed by the end of Q1 2025.

Arncliffe and Rockdale tunnelling activities
6 February 2025
Tunnelling and construction work continues during February at Arncliffe. The electrical team are continuing the fit-out phase with electrical systems including, including lighting, GPS, variable signage, for the tunnels when they are operational. Over 80 per cent of the future road pavement is complete and the excavation team have commenced backfilling sections of temporary tunnels and access shafts that are no longer in use. Tunnelling also continues from our Rockdale site. Our activities at this site include ongoing excavation of the future tunnel roof and floor, as well as preparing areas to install drainage services and communication conduits as well as lay future road pavement. Roadworks continuing along President Avenue, Princes Highway and West Botany Street
6 February 2025
In February, work continues across our roadworks alignment. Stormwater upgrade work to mitigate flooding on President Avenue is nearing completion, while construction of new kerb, gutters and footpath pavement along the main road is ongoing. Construction of the slip lane from Princes Highway to President Avenue, at the former 7-Eleven site, and from President Avenue westbound to Princes Highway also continues this month.
Traffic management work, which includes the installation of signage, signals and equipment for the M6 Stage 1 is nearing completion, while two base slab pours within the tunnel portal are scheduled for the month.

Update on M6 Stage 1 timeline
12 December 2024
Due to the subsidence incidents in early 2024, the M6 Stage 1 tunnel will open to traffic later than planned – we anticipate it will now open to traffic in late 2028. However, major roadwork on President Avenue will be completed in 2025.
Safety is our number one priority and tunnelling at the sites impacted by subsidence will only recommence once the design has been reviewed in consultation with SafeWork NSW.

Improving motorists’ safety: new traffic lights at Moorefield Avenue
19 November 2024
Transport for NSW will install traffic lights at the intersection of Moorefield Avenue and President Avenue in 2025, giving residents a safe left and right turn out of Moorefield Avenue onto President Avenue and direct access to West Botany Street and the future M6 Stage 1 tunnel.
To allow for these new traffic lights, Moorefield Avenue will become one way between President Avenue and Warren Avenue. This will have minimal impact on local parking and will not impact any driveways.

Step by step: Shared pathway site establishment at Whiteoak Reserve
28 October 2024
Site establishment activities in Whiteoak Reserve will commence on Tuesday 29 October, marking a milestone for the M6 Stage 1. Establishment activities will pave the way for the team to begin construction of the 5km shared pedestrian and cyclist pathway from Whiteoak Reserve to the existing site in Muddy Creek, adjacent to C.A. Redmond Field and Rockdale Women Sportsfield. Once complete, Whiteoak Reserve will be the northernmost point of the alignment, which will meander south through Bicentennial Park, across President Avenue via the new shared pathway bridge, before heading to Chuter Avenue via Scarborough Park north.
Our team will place site fencing along the project’s boundary in Whiteoak Reserve before site establishment activities begin. Urban Design and Landscape Plan partial approval
15 April 2024
In a major milestone for the M6 Stage 1, our Urban Design and Landscape Plan (UDLP) has now been partially approved, paving the way for the project to deliver new parks and recreation spaces for the Bayside community.
The approval covers reinstatement of Rockdale Bicentennial Park, the tunnel entrance at President Avenue, and the shared pedestrian and cyclist pathway from Bestic Street to Chuter Avenue.

The M6 Stage 1 demonstrates how industry partnership can build capacity in Aboriginal businesses, supporting the development of employment, skills and commercial sustainability. In this video we hear about the alliance between the Wumara Group and Veris to provide surveying services on the M6 Stage 1 project.
