Drag the slider from the left to right to compare the existing road layout to the designed road layout.
Works proposed at Gardeners Road and O'Riordan Street are as follows:
These changes would increase safety by removing the right turn across two lanes of oncoming traffic from Gardeners Road.
Additionally, banning left turns for long vehicles in both directions would improve traffic flow on Gardeners Road by reducing lane blocking by heavy vehicles turning.

Works proposed at Gardeners Road and Botany Road are as follows:
These changes would make the right turn from Gardeners Road (west) into Botany Road (south) more efficient and better manage congestion caused by vehicles queuing to turn right.

Works proposed at Kent Road and Ricketty Street include:
Realigning Kent Road and the pedestrian crossing would allow for better traffic flow on Kent Road.
The concrete median would eliminate a potentially dangerous right turn across two lanes of traffic.

Roads and Maritime investigated the current use of the mid-block pedestrian crossing due to safety concerns. Pedestrian volumes were measured during morning and afternoon peak periods on a weekday and across a 12-hour period on the weekend. A total of 17 pedestrians used the mid-block crossing during the morning peak period and 13 during the afternoon peak period during the weekday. A total of 40 pedestrians used the mid-block crossing during the 12-hour period on the weekend, with a maximum of eight pedestrians per hour. Due to the low volumes of use and safety concerns raised by the community, we have decided to close access as part of our project to improve King Georges Road Widening Stage 1. Alternative pedestrian access is available at the signalised intersections of King Georges Road Widening Stage 1 and Macauley Avenue.
Covering the open drain on King Georges Road Widening Stage 1 was investigated and considered as part of this project. A number of possible solutions were discussed with key stakeholders including Sydney Water and the City of Canterbury Bankstown. Due to the constraints of the existing drain structure, covering the drain completely or partially would impact the effective flood management of the drain. This would cause flooding on King Georges Road Widening Stage 1, including further down the road corridor and therefore was not able to be considered further as part of this project.
Roads and Maritime is currently working with the City of Canterbury Bankstown to develop a final design for stage three intersection improvements on King Georges Road Widening Stage 1, Stanley Street and Salvia Avenue. We are currently looking at options that will minimise the impact to Stevens Reserve whilst balancing the aims of the project. The community will be updated as this stage of the project progresses.
We will be in your local area during February to talk about the upcoming improvements. Our interactive map and members from the project team will be available to answer your questions at:

No right turn for all vehicles except buses from Bourke Street into Coward Street
A new slip lane will be installed to accommodate left-turning vehicles into Coward Street from Kent Road. The slip lane will also improve safety from long vehicles, who currently experience difficulty in navigating this turn safely.
Lanes reconfigured to include a shared left/through lane and a dedicated through lane on Gardeners Road.
Approximately 12 parking spaces will be removed to maintain two lanes of through traffic on Gardeners Road.
Two additional parking spaces will be removed on Botany Road (south) near the intersection of Gardeners Road to improve safety for turning traffic.
Two additional parking spaces will be removed on Botany Road (south) near the intersection of Gardeners Road to improve safety for turning traffic.
Approximately 3 parking spaces will be removed to maintain a continuous southbound through lane.
