Proposal no. and location
a) Between Whaling Road and Mount Street
Parking change proposed
The reinstatement of parallel parking spaces is proposed between Mount Street and Whaling Road in the southbound kerbside lane north of Whaling Road. Following feedback from residents and businesses a loading zone is proposed to be reinstated in this location. The parking spaces would be accessible from Alfred Street North travelling southbound from the Mount Street intersection.
Details of currently planned and proposed on-street parking
Currently planned on-street parking reinstatement on Alfred Street North between High Street and Mount Street:

2 x loading zone (8:30am-6pm Mon-Fri) Permit Holders Excepted ‘2P-8:30am-6pm Mon-Fri Permit Holders Excepted’ outside of these hours and on the remainder of the on-street parking spaces.
b) Between Kurraba Road and Darley Street
Permanent diagonal parking spaces are proposed between Kurraba Road and Darley Street. These permanently line marked spaces are opposite the Alfred Street North residential properties and will not impact the existing on-street residential parking on the eastern side of Alfred Street North. The parking spaces would be accessible from Alfred Street North travelling southbound. The provision of diagonal permanent on-street parking spaces in this location would provide an additional eight (8) parking spaces than are currently anticipated when the area returns to parallel parking only. Some diagonal parking has already been temporarily implemented in this area during construction. Following previous consultation there is also support to covert these parking spaces on the western side of Alfred Steet North, south of Darley Street to restricted “2P-8:30am-6pm Mon-Fri Permit Holders Excepted. This change would help to prioritise resident parking and will help to reduce the overall impact of parking removal on residents.
Currently planned on-street parking on Alfred Street North between Kurraba Road and Ridge Street shared user bridge lift access:
Proposed additional parking reinstatement (subject of this consultation) We are seeking your feedback on reinstating an additional eight (8) on-street parking spaces southbound between Darley Street and 323 Alfred Street North (approx. location) on the opposite side of the road to the residential properties. This could be achieved by installing permanent diagonal parking in this area. 10 parallel parking spaces are currently planned in this location. By diagonally line marking the area we can provide a total of 18 on-street parking spaces, including 16 diagonal parking spaces and 2 parallel parking spaces.
The on-street parking restrictions proposed are: 2P-8:30am-6pm Mon-Fri Permit Holders Excepted.
c) Between Rose Avenue and Merlin Street
A combination of parallel and diagonal spaces are proposed. These spaces would be accessed from Alfred Street North travelling one-way northbound only. Residents on Rose Avenue and Wyagdon Street would need to detour via Bent Street to access their properties. The proposed design changes would provide up to an additional 19 permanent on-street parking spaces than are currently planned. If this proposal isn’t supported 19 less spots will be installed. Please note that the temporary construction carpark on Merlin Street will also be returned to the community as a park as originally committed.
Currently planned on-street parking on Alfred Street North between Rose Avenue and Merlin Street:
Proposed additional parking reinstatement (subject of this consultation). We are seeking your feedback on reinstating additional on-street parking spaces and permanently converting Alfred Street North between Rose Avenue and Merlin Street to one-way vehicle traffic northbound only.
The implementation of 19 additional permanent parking spaces will require Alfred Street North to be permanently converted to one-way vehicle traffic northbound only between Rose Avenue and Merlin Street. Rose Avenue and Wyagdon Street would be accessed by right turn from Alfred Street North and exit via right turn only to Alfred Street North northbound. A U-turn will be established at the intersection of Merlin Street, Alfred Street North and McIntosh Lane.
Please click here to view the detour map. Motorists are expected to experience 5 minutes additional travel time when accessing these spaces via Bent Street and Winter Avenue or from Mount Street and Alfred Street North northbound.
Please share your feedback on the options that are relevant to you.
Four on-street parking spaces will be established on Alfred Street North next to the Ridge Street shared user bridge ramp access, directly outside the residential properties within the shared zone.
We are seeking your feedback on the North Sydney Council parking restrictions that will be in place once construction work is completed.
We are seeking community feedback on installing two parallel parking spaces to be dedicated car share spaces for community use on McIntosh Lane. Car share offers numerous benefits including reducing the need for car ownership, lowering local parking pressure and congestion. Car share provides a transport option for those who can't or don't want to own a car, encouraging sustainable travel.
The proposed parking restrictions on Alfred Street North will be in line with the Standard Resident Parking Restrictions for North Sydney. These are:
This is consistent with the previous meter parking restriction locations. North Sydney Council will confirm which parking locations are going to be metered and which on-street parking spaces will be for permit holders.
Following feedback from residents who are restricted on parking in parking spaces that might be near their property but out of their resident parking permit area we are proposing to combine these areas. We are seeking community feedback on the amalgamation of two parking permit areas, Area 1 and Area 30. This would permit residents with a valid parking permit for either area to utilise on-street parking in both areas.
