Community & Near Neighbours
Consultation & engagement
Keeping the community informed, providing opportunities for input and listening to concerns are central to our approach to engagement and consultation on the CCOP. As our technical investigations and environmental studies progress, we will ensure we provide community with simplified and easy to understand information on the outcomes, any potential impacts and mitigation measures. We will continue to keep community informed through a range of communication channels including website updates, fact sheets, eNewsletters, workshops, drop-in sessions and advertisements in local papers.
More information, including our schedule for upcoming events is available on the news and events page.
First Nations Engagement
Newmont acknowledges the Wiradjuri people, past, present and future, as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land on which we operate and the proposed Project site area.
As part of the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessment, the CCOP team has been collaborating closely with the Orange Local Aboriginal Land Council and completed the registration process for interested Aboriginal Parties to be engaged in the assessment of CCOP. Engagement with Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs) has been ongoing over the past 18 months including consultation regarding the strategy for the Aboriginal heritage survey in the Project area for the EIS assessment.
Engagement with the RAPs will be ongoing throughout the assessment process and will include engagement regarding the cultural values of the Project area and surrounds.
Near Neighbours
The CCOP team recognises that some of the changes proposed as part of the project have raised concerns for landholders, particularly those located in close proximity to the site and the proposed southern tailing storage facility extension (STSFX).
The team respects that different landholders have unique concerns related to their property, lifestyle and business or farming operations, and is committed to continuing to hold regular 1:1 meetings and residents workshops.
If you would like to arrange a 1:1 meeting with the project team, please contact us on 1800 716 864 or at c.copeis@newcrest.com.au.
Engagement to date
The CCOP engagement team has been out in the community since late 2021. We’re continuing to engage with residents located closest to the site, and are planning more engagement with the wider community in the lead up to, and during the public exhibition of the EIS.
Our engagement activities for the CCOP include:
EIS Technical Q&A Forums
Community Information Sessions
Community Pop Up Stalls
Near Neighbour meetings
CCOP Workshops
Cadia District Residents Meetings
Community Surveys
Complaints & feedback
The CCOP team is interested in hearing your views on the proposed changes and is committed to responding to, and where possible, resolving your concerns about the Project as quickly as possible. Our complaints management process follows the Cadia Community Feedback Management framework.
As we progress our technical investigations and studies as part of the preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement, more information on potential impacts and our proposed mitigations will be provided. Please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions webpage for up-to-date responses to community questions and concerns.
